'Doubling Down With the Derricos' Karen and Deon Celebrate Son's Big Day With Heartfelt Tribute: 'We Can’t Love You Enough'

Despite their former marital woes , Karen and Deon Derrico are coming together today to celebrate one of their children on his special day.

Derrick , their second of 14 children , turned 14 on Wednesday, July 17, and the parents of many took to Instagram with a joint post to honor their oldest son on his birthday, sharing a compilation of home videos and photos from throughout the teen's life so far, set to Bruno Mars' "24K Magic."

"Happy 14th Birthday @derrickdderrico 🎉🎊🎂," they wrote, marveling over the time that's passed. "Wow, 14 years ago! Freshman in high School this Fall!"

The former spouses agreed that they "can not celebrate [Derrick] enough," while Karen shared a tidbit about how she wanted his gender to be a secret before she eventually "caved" and asked Deon, who was already aware he was a boy, to tell her.

Deon was "super over protective" though and made sure "several times" that she really wanted to know before revealing the gender. "I cried as if he’d given me bad news 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣," she admitted, but was "sooooooo HAPPY" after suffering four miscarriages and having a daughter to be having a boy.

"You have never disappointed us and your [sic] are such a hard working, smart and determined young man!" she continued. "We can’t love you enough! Just thankful that God chose us to be your parents! We love you and we are so excited as to what your blessed future holds 🏀👨🏾‍💻📚💵."

It was a sweet note to see amid the difficulties the family has been facing lately, with their eldest daughter Darian planning to move out , Deon's mother Marian "GG" Derrico battling cancer, and their nephew, Amani , recently suffering complications after undergoing his third liver transplant . Deon has asked fans for prayers for the young man, who is now dealing with an infection in his brain and likely in "other parts of his body," according to his uncle's latest update .
