    Arkansas Emergency Operations Center opens in response to July 17 flash flooding in eight counties

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas has activated additional emergency response due to the onset of flash flooding in the state on July 17.

    Arkansas Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) officials said the agency has activated its State Emergency Operations Center to a Level 1 status to meet flooding requirements. ADEM officials said that many counties in Arkansas are reporting damage to infrastructure, road closures and evacuations.

    ADEM reports flooding impact in Baxter, Cleburne, Conway, Faulkner, Lawrence, Marion, Searcy and Stone counties due to overnight storms.

    The agency listed four sites where evacuations have been made or are underway:

    • The Creekside Health and Rehabilitation Senior Facility in Yellville reported 80-plus evacuees due to flooding. Residents are now at to the Marion County Community Center.
    • Flippin had 30 to 40 people evacuated from their homes due to flooding. The American Red Cross is establishing a shelter to house Flippin residents.
    • Greenbrier Gardens Apartment Complex reported that 30-plus residents evacuated due to flooding.
    • ADEM reported that Round Bottom Road at Herpel Road near Mountain View flooded, and residents are in the evacuation process.

    ADEM officials are reminding all Arkansans to stay safe during flooding, including following evacuation orders and not driving around barricades.
