Ryan Serhant was “authentically surprised” when Andy Cohen announced Owning Manhattan in a February 2024 episode of Watch What Happens Live .

The real estate mogul appeared alongside Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay in the episode, which aired months before Owning Manhattan premiered on Netflix . In fact, no one even knew at the time that Serhant was returning to television following his longtime run on Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing New York .

When Serhant recently stopped by DECIDER’s offices, we reminded him of the time Cohen seemed to steal his thunder by announcing his new show.

“Andy Cohen, gets you every time!” Serhant joked.

“If you watch that clip, I am authentically surprised,” he continued. “Because I told him like, ‘Hey, do you mind if I say that we’re coming back to TV and doing a show on Netflix?’ [He was] like, ‘Yeah, no problem.’ And the next thing I know he’s like, ‘You have a show…’ He says it out loud and I’m like, ‘I guess this is how we’re doing this. And it’s live. Great. Watch what happens to me now.'”

ICYMI: At the start of the Feb. 7 episode, Cohen blurted out that Serhant would be playing himself in an upcoming Netflix reality show, which, at the time, had not yet been named.

“Wow. That’s a way to put it out there,” a stunned Serhant said in response. “You’re the first to know that we’re coming back to TV, baby! Let’s go!”

Cohen subtly shaded the streaming platform’s “fake reality shows” by wondering if Serhant would be “bringing the real to reality on Netflix.”

“Yeah. It’s based in New York. It follows our company. It’s wild,” Serhant said. “It’s unlike anything I’ve ever done. I think it’s totally gonna redefine the genre.”

While Cohen might’ve jumped the gun on Serhant’s announcement, the Million Dollar Listing alum said there were no hard feelings between him and the iconic late-night host.

“I love Andy. I talked to him today, actually. He’s great,” Serhant told us. “It’s his show. He’s Andy Cohen, he can do whatever he wants. He created the thunder. So if he stole it from me, he basically just borrowed it for a second and gave it right back because he built it in the first place.”

Owning Manhattan is currently streaming on Netflix.
