Joe Jonas is prepping his first proper solo album in more than a decade, Music for People Who Believe in Love , which is set to arrive Oct. 18 via Republic Records.

The musician will officially launch the record this Friday, July 19, with the release of the lead single, “Work It Out.” Jonas has been teasing the track and album for the past month and recently spoke about both on the Therapuss With Jake Shane podcast.

Of “Work It Out,” which he wrote with Blush and Jason Evigan, Jonas said: “We wrote it pretty quickly, but the idea is, pretty much, sometimes you realize that you have to shake yourself out of something and you’re the only person that’s going to fix it for yourself. No one’s gonna come save you. It’s emotional lyrics with fun music.”

Along with Blush and Evigan, Jonas said he worked on the album with Alexander 23, Justin Trainor, Tommy English, MUNA’s Josette Maskin, Paris Carney, and more. “We made an album in two to three weeks,” he added. “Just two rooms all at once and I’m just really excited. It’s the most personal music I have ever put out.”

Music for People Who Believe in Love marks Jonas’ second solo album, following his 2011 effort Fastlife (released not long after the Jonas Brothers went on hiatus). After that album, Jonas founded the band DNCE, which released a self-titled debut in 2016. The Jonas Brothers reunited in 2019 and have since released two records, 2019’s Happiness Begins and last year’s The Album .

In a statement, Jonas called his new record a “celebration of gratitude, hope, and love.” He said the songs “reflect on my life from a bird’s-eye view acknowledging the many blessings around me,” touching on his experiences of “being a father, being a friend to oneself and others, and the happiness I’ve found in doing what I love for a living.”

He continued: “A director I once worked with had a handwritten note above his camera during filming that asked, ‘What do you want them to feel?’ This question still resonates with me every time I step on stage or create new music. The ability to perform, connect deeply with an audience, and evoke positive emotions, or even healing, is a gift I cherish.”

Jonas’ album notably comes in the midst of his high-profile divorce from actress Sophie Turner. Jonas filed for divorce after four years of marriage last September, saying their relationship was “irretrievably broken.” Not long after, Turner sued him, asking that he return their two children to their home in England, claiming Jonas had the kids “wrongfully removed or wrongfully detained.” Since the previous fall. Turner dropped that suit in January of this year.
