Julia Garner might still be portraying the Material Girl Madonna in the future, but for now, she’s telling a different sort of origin story. In Natalie Erika James’ “Rosemary’s Baby” prequel, Garner leads a psychological thriller set in the haunted New York City apartment building that Roman Polanski made iconic in his 1968 horror classic.

Titled “Apartment 7A,” the Paramount+ feature takes place in 1965, prior to Polanski’s legendary horror classic “Rosemary’s Baby,” and explores what happened in the infamous Bramford Building before Rosemary moved in.

The official synopsis reads: “Ambitious young dancer Terry Gionoffrio (Garner) dreams of fame and fortune in New York City, but after suffering a devastating injury, an older, wealthy couple played by Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally welcomes her into their home in the luxury apartment building the Bramford. When fellow resident and influential Broadway producer (Jim Sturgess) offers her another chance at fame, it seems that all her dreams are finally coming true. However, after an evening she can’t fully remember, disturbing circumstances soon have her second-guessing the sacrifices she’s willing to make for her career as she realizes that something evil is living not only in Apartment 7A, but in the Bramford itself.”

Marli Siu, Andrew Buchan, Rosy McEwen, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith co-star. “Relic” filmmaker James directs from a screen story by Skylar James and a screenplay by Natalie Erika James, Christian White, and Skylar James. “Apartment 7A” is executive produced by Vicki Dee Rock and Alexa Ginsburg.

“Apartment 7A” is a Paramount+ original movie in association with Paramount Pictures. The film is a Platinum Dunes/Sunday Night Production and is based on the novel “Rosemary’s Baby” by Ira Levin. The star-studded producers include Michael Bay, John Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller.

“Apartment 7A” will be featured in the Paramount+ Peak Screaming collection that curates a broad and popular lineup of new originals, fan-favorite horror movies, and iconic Halloween episodes from beloved series, per an official press release. Paramount+ has also been mining its film IP for TV with the “Godfather”-inspired series “The Offer” and more.

“Apartment 7A” isn’t the first twist on “Rosemary’s Baby”: The film landed a two-part, four-hour limited series at NBC in 2014 with Zoe Saldana starring. The original film also received a behind-the-scenes documentary with director Polanski and lead actress Mia Farrow revisiting the feature.

“Apartment 7A” start streaming on September 27 on Paramount+. Check out the first look images below.
