    Alan Hansen pictures spark outpouring of support from Liverpool fans after illness

    Liverpool fans were thrilled to see Alan Hansen back out on the golf course as the Anfield legend was pictured for the first time since leaving hospital.

    The former defender was admitted to hospital last month after falling seriously ill . News of the Liverpool legend’s fight for his life led to messages of support from the likes of Gary Lineker and Steven Gerrard , while Graeme Souness admitted he had feared the worst at one stage.

    Hansen though was able to leave hospital on June 23, much to the relief of Liverpool fans and supporters across football.

    A statement from his family read: "Alan, Janet, Adam, Lucy and family would like to thank everybody for their wonderful messages of love and support. It has been overwhelming and has helped enormously. We also hugely appreciate the ongoing respect that has been shown for our privacy as Alan continues his recovery. Thank you."

    Hansen has now been spotted out and about for the first time since leaving hospital, with the Scot back out on the golf course near his home in Southport.

    "He looked great, and was clearly enjoying himself," an onlooker told The Mirror . "He was full of smiles."

    The sight of the man known affectionately during his time at Liverpool as ‘Jockey’ sparked an outpouring of support from supporters online. The club’s supporters union Spirit of Shankly responded: “Great news” alongside a thumbs up emoji.

    Another user added: “Fantastic news. Wishing #AlanHansen a full & speedy recovery. A truly lovely, lovely man,” with another simply adding: “Ahh mate great to see.”

    “Nice to see Alan Hansen oot & aboot again,” remarked another fan on X, while a user on Reddit commented: “And in a shock to absolutely no one, it's because he wanted a round of golf. Good to see that he's feeling healthy and can get back to doing the things he loves.”
