Fans Accuse Robert Irwin of ‘Lying’ As He Literally ‘Turns Pink’ Trying Divisive Food

During a visit abroad, Robert Irwin , the son of Terri and Steve Irwin , took on the challenge of trying a durian, a divisive fruit that is indigenous to Southeast Asia. While he claimed he liked it, fans couldn't help but question if Robert was lying when they saw his face.

Robert shared a clip on Instagram with the caption, "Robert vs Durian…" He called the durian "like the most polarizing food in the world," noting that the intense—or as he called it, "confronting"—smell caused it to be banned from trains in Singapore.

He politely thanked the man he bought the fruit from who cut it open for him, saying, "It looks great," before revealing, "I'm so nervous... Everyone either says it's great, or it's literally the worst thing they've ever eaten."

Robert held a piece in his hand to try, saying, "I'm just gonna do it," before he quickly took a bite out of it. As he tasted it, Robert began to make some unique facial expressions. He declared, "It's good. It's actually not bad...I like it," as he coughed and appeared to have trouble continuing to chew the fruit.

Fans weren't that convinced that Robert enjoyed the durian, with comments like, "Your words and your eyes are telling 2 very different stories here 😆," and "Your pants are so on fire! 😂."

A fan from Singapore who has firsthand experience with durians said, "I’m Singaporean and I know you are lying 😂😂😂 We love it though! Thank you for trying!! 😆." There were also some tips from other people who've eaten the fruit before, such as plugging your nose and trying to "close your eyes and eat it slowly."

"*Slowly turns pink. Gags. Coughs. Turns pinker. 'It's good'* 😂😂😂👏👏👏," joked someone else.

Others loved how nervous Robert was to try the fruit, since he faces off against dangerous animals all the time, such as fans who commented, "Love the fact that you’re more nervous trying durian than being face to face with a huge crocodile," and "Robert = crocs ✅ durian ❌."

It appears that Robert made the fun video while traveling in Singapore with his mother and sister, Bindi Irwin , and Bindi's husband, Chandler Powell .

Terri also shared a sweet video showing off some more of their adventures from the trip, writing, "Together in Singapore🌸."
