    Body found in Deep Creek in Powhatan County within recent fugitive search area

    POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A body has been found in Deep Creek in Powhatan County, within the same acres authorities have been searching for an armed and dangerous man since Thursday.

    According to a July 17 press release from the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Deep Creek at about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday for a reported body found.

    When they arrived, they were able to confirm the death. An investigation is ongoing into the nature of this death, as well as the identity of the person.

    “The location of the body is within the 2,300-acre area in Powhatan County that has been the focus of a recent search,” the release reads.

    Since Thursday, July 11, authorities from multiple jurisdictions — including Powhatan deputies — have been combing Powhatan County and surrounding localities for 36-year-old Chazz Lee Gordon .

    According to the sheriff’s office, he is an armed and dangerous felon who vaded a traffic stop that Thursday and was seen fleeing on foot with a gun. The search for Gordon has been ongoing since then.

    No other information on the body found in Deep Creek is available at this time.
