We've tested a lot of the best vacuum cleaners , putting them through rigorous conditions to see everything they're capable of. The Dyson V15 Detect has long been the best we've ever tested and it now shares the top spot with the new Dyson Gen5detect .

The cordless vacuum cleaner can easily clean pretty much any mess you throw at it. It can reveal hidden dust, detect what's on your floors, and count the particles it collects - as well as being incredibly powerful and easy to use.

The Dyson V15 Detect is now at its lowest price ever for Prime Day . You can save $200 bringing this market-leading appliance into your home, and it might be a long time until you can do that again. Prime Day ends tonight July 17.

    Editor's choice

    Dyson V15 Detect Plus | was $749.99 , now $549.99 at Amazon (save $200)

This is one of the best vacuum cleaners we've ever tested, and the best vacuum for pet hair . Rivalled only by Dyson's newer Gen5detect, the V15 Detect tops all others in terms of suction power, dust detection, pet hair pickup and ease of use.

A laser illuminates hidden dust that the naked eye can't see, and it automatically adjusts suction power based on the dust volume of your floors. The V15 Detect Plus comes with extra cleaning tools and attachments too, and it's now at its lowest price ever.

Why buy the Dyson V15 Detect?

Out of all the countless vacuums we've tested at Homes & Gardens , the Dyson V15 Detect is one of the best. For a long time, it was our best on test until Dyson released the newer, more expensive Dyson Gen5detect .

There are a few factors at play contributing to it being such a capable vacuum. To start, the suction power is almost unbelievable, as there's pretty much no solid mess it can't handle. We tested it with dust, flour, food, small debris, large debris, and pet hair – and it was able to pick them all up with little effort. We'd turn to the V15 Detect when clearing up messes that other vacuums couldn't handle.

Then, Dyson's detection tech sets it a league above other cordless vacuums. On the FluffyOptic cleaner head is a green light that illuminates dust that you can't normally see (trust me, you'd be surprised by how much is there).

It's also constantly detecting the dust/debris volume of your floors and can increase suction power when it's needed, or bring it down when you can afford to save your battery life. On top of that, it counts the particles picked up down to individual particle sizes; this feature isn't necessarily essential , but it gives great insight into areas you may not have thought were so dirty.

The vacuum is easy to use, in a lightweight, easily maneuverable design. It has no problem getting under furniture, round corners, or into tight spaces, and you can transform it into a handheld vacuum at any point.

It also comes with attachments for the more specific cleaning tasks (like the crevice tool and brush). Two of the brush heads also have anti-tangle properties for when you need to vacuum hair; we used one of them to vacuum a dog bed, and it restored it to its original color while reviving the faux-sherpa bottom.

There are only two real downsides: the trigger and the price. To operate it, you need to be pressing the trigger the entire time. This is only a minor drawback, but it can become a bit tiresome to hold it down for long periods for those with mobility issues. It does, however, mean that you're not using up battery life in those moments when you're lifting it off the floor.

But for the price, it's now reduced by $200 for Prime Day. This is the lowest price we've ever seen, and it puts the V15 Detect into a more affordable price range. You'd struggle to find a better vacuum even at full price, so for this much money, this is the best you'll get.

    What are the alternatives?

While this is the best vacuum deal in the whole Prime Day sale, there are still other options if it's not quite what you're looking for.

    Shark Detect Pro Cordless

This is Shark's contender to compete with Dyson's Detect vacuums. It can also adjust power based on your floor's dirt levels and has a light to reveal what's on the floor. I'm currently testing this model, and I can confirm it's not quite as good as the Dyson offerings, but still a capable vacuum.

    Dyson V11

If you're looking to bring Dyson's vacuum power into your home, but would rather not spend the extra $100s on particle detection, the V11 is the perfect choice. It's a powerful vacuum with a generous dustbin and a versatile design. And at $399.99, this is superb value for money.

    Dyson Gen5detect

This is the only other vacuum that's as good as, if not slightly better than, the Dyson V15 Detect. It's sadly not on offer this Prime Day, so you'll have to be willing to part with almost $1,000.
