Golf legend Tiger Woods said he spent all of Saturday night watching coverage of former President Donald Trump’s assassination attempt.

The iconic golfer, a friend of Trump's, was informed of the historic news during a flight from Florida to Scotland . As a result, Woods opted to stay up the whole night to watch the news and arrived sleep-deprived at his practice Sunday.

“I didn’t accomplish a lot because I wasn’t in the right frame of mind,” Woods told BBC Sports . "It was a long night and that’s all we watched the entire time on the way over here."

The friendship between Trump and Woods goes back quite a bit, with the former president awarding the golfer the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019. In 2021, Trump sent Woods wishes to “get well soon” when the golfer was hospitalized for a serious crash.

Woods is overseas to partake in the 152nd Open Championship , which is being held at the Royal Troon Golf Club. This will mark his third Open Championship at Royal Troon in his career, following 1997 and 2004.

Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt Saturday at a Pennsylvania rally. The former president has since reflected on the event and said that he is “not supposed to be here.” The Washington Examiner’s Byron York asked Trump if the historic moment changed his campaign at all, to which the former president immediately answered “yes.”

Country musician John Rich contended that the public watched God protect Trump as the former president turned his head at the last moment to dodge the bullets fired at him. Rich added that denying that God saved Trump would be hard to do, even for “the biggest detractors.”
