J.D. Vance set to give prime-time address at RNC

MILWAUKEE (NEXSTAR) — The third day of the Republican National Convention is all about the Republican pick for vice president.

Trump’s new running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, will accept the Republican nomination for vice president.

“I’m very excited about this evening,” Vance said.

While Senator Vance has made several appearances, Wednesday night will be the first time the political newcomer will address the nation as the Republican vice-presidential nominee.

“We’re gonna get out there and try to fire up the crowd tonight and make the case a very easy case to make, but an important case to make that we have got to re-elect President Donald J. Trump,” he said.

Vance sprung onto the political scene after writing a memoir highlighting his working-class roots in the Rust Belt.

Delegates and lawmakers say Vance checks all the right boxes. At 39 years old, the Marine Corps veteran turned businessman turned senator, would become the first millennial vice president if elected.

“This truly is a generational reach and people can relate to him,” Florida delegate Tom Gaitens said.

In 2016 Vance criticized Trump for, “leading the white working class to a very dark place.”  He has since become one of Trump’s most vocal defenders.

Other prominent MAGA loyalists will deliver remarks ahead of Vance’s prime-time slot, including Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz and Donald Trump Jr.

Former Trump adviser Peter Navarro, who was just released from federal prison Wednesday morning, is also expected to speak.

Wednesday’s theme is Make America Strong Again and will focus on foreign policy and border security.
