    Escambia County K-9 that jumped over bridge after homicide suspects to be presented with medal

    ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — An Escambia County Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer who has been deemed by many as a hero will be receiving the Medal of Courage from the sheriff after he courageously jumped over a bridge while trying to catch three homicide suspects .

    Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons will be presenting K-9 Streeter with the Medal of Courage Award, which is given to members of the agency for “heroic achievements or service in the line of duty,” according to a news release.

    K-9 Streeter jumped over the Highway 90 bridge on June 24 after deputies wrecked a car on the bridge after the passengers were allegedly involved in a drive-by shooting that killed 70-year-old Myra Hayes.

    After deputies wrecked the car they were in, the three men jumped off the side of the bridge. One of the men died, one has not been found and 19-year-old Jaquaris Trayquan Ethridge was arrested.

    The medal presentation will take place at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, July 18.
