    LIST: East Texas counties that can apply for FEMA help from early summer flooding

    AUSTIN, Texas ( KETK ) – Gov. Greg Abbott announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved 11 additional counties, including six East Texas counties, as part of a federal disaster declaration.

    FEMA assistance now available for Nacogdoches, Polk County residents affected by Beryl

    According to a release from the governor’s office, FEMA approved the counties to be part of a federal disaster declaration of severe weather and flooding that took place between April 26 and June 5. The newly approved East Texas counties are:

    • Cass
    • Cherokee
    • Hopkins
    • Morris
    • Sabine
    • Titus

    All of the following East Texas counties are eligible for FEMA’s Public Assistance program:

    • Anderson
    • Cass
    • Cherokee
    • Henderson
    • Hopkins
    • Houston
    • Morris
    • Panola
    • Polk
    • Rusk
    • Sabine
    • San Augustine
    • Shelby
    • Titus
    • Trinity
    • Van Zandt

    The following East Texas counties are eligible for FEMA’s Individual Assistance program:

    • Nacogdoches
    • Panola
    • Polk
    • Rusk
    • Sabine
    • Smith
    • Trinity
    • Van Zandt

    Texans whose vehicles have been damaged may be eligible for assistance which may include repair or replacement of a vehicle. FEMA said the vehicle must have caused by the disaster and must no longer be operable or safe to drive.

    FEMA emphasized they will not cover cosmetic repairs. To be approved for assistance Texans must:

    • Certify in writing that the damaged vehicle is essential for household’s daily use.
    • The vehicle must comply with state registration and insurance requirements.
    • The vehicle must be owned or leased (not a rental) by the applicant, co-applicant, or household member.
    • The damaged vehicle must be an approved vehicle type, such as a car, truck, SUV or van.
    • Assistance is usually limited to one vehicle. If there is a second functional vehicle in the household, the applicant

    According to FEMA, Texans affected by the severe weather and flooding have until Aug. 15 to apply for assistance .
