SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Financial assistance is still available who lost their homes during the flooding.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has provided more than $40 million to Iowans so far. In northwest Iowa alone, FEMA has approved funds for 3,700 flood-impacted households.

While FEMA can’t pay for things already paid for by insurance or covered by nonprofit organizations, FEMA does have resources available for people who are still displaced due to the flooding. The agency is working with families to provide them a temporary place to stay because recovery may take some time.

“You might be able to get two months of rent in the form of a cash payment,” John Mills with FEMA said. “We encourage you to keep your receipts, make sure to get a lease agreement in writing. If you are renting a hotel room with that money, make sure to save those receipts so that if you can come back to FEMA later and still have a continuing need, provide that documentation to us.”

You can ask for help at local disaster recovery centers or by calling the FEMA help line at 800-621-3362.
