STONE COUNTY, Ark.- Flood waters impacted several counties in Arkansas late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, including in Stone County.

Rebecca Stair grew up in Stone County and has seen this scene before.

“It’s scary when it’s like this,’ Stair said.

In Stone County, just north of Mountain View is a small town on the White River called Allison.

With at least one foot of rain in the area, the White River and Sylamore Creek started overflowing.

From campers to trees locals like Bill Stair, have seen a lot floating down the river.

“Saw two round bales of hay coming down,” Stair said, “Just lots of debris that have been picked up along the banks.”

At the Sylamore Creek campground, they evacuated the lower level of their campground after watching the water rise overnight.

Greg Branscum, the owner of Sylamore Creek campground, says down near the creek is a popular spot for camping. However, that’s the first affected area when it floods.

“Throughout the night it just kept on, kept on,” Branscum said.

Thankfully no campers from their sight were swept away.

“When there’s a flood alert, or when it’s going to rain, thunderstorm, you always got to be cautious, because who would’ve expected 16 inches of rain overnight,” Branscum said.

The main message that the community wanted to convey was to stay safe.

“Be careful, even on regular days it’s a dangerous river,” Stair said.
