Big Brother fans complained their "brain hurts" from new "weird" artificial intelligence twist introduced during the season premiere episode.

Wednesday evening season 26 of Big Brother kicked off introducing viewers to the newest batch of houseguests. And while fans were thrilled the long-running series was finally back on the air, many shared the major complaint over the newly introduced AI theme and the unexpected twist during the first episode.

After introductions, the first eight contestants were issued a choice whether or not to, for first time ever, have the power to vote in a 17th houseguest. During her introduction, the houseguest Ainsley presented herself as a quirky blue-haired surfer girl who was looking forward at a shot on competing in the games. Each player was then asked to cast their vote whether or not they wanted Ainsley to join them in the games before being met with a surprise.

After revealing whether or not they voted yes or no to Ainsley joining the house, it was unveiled that Ainsley was not a contestant or even a real person, but rather AI technology that was playing a trick on them. After the truth was uncovered, an eery AI-generated blue figure took the screen. She explained that all of those that voted "yes" to Ainsley entering the games would compete to have an advantage over the other players.

Those that voted yes competed in a color sequence competition while those that voted no were forced to enter a fear factor challenge and the loser would receive a downgrade. During the fear-themed game, players were asked to stick their heads in a box and come face-to-face with some of the most widely held fears from spiders to snakes as they tried to piece together scattered letters. And while some praised the shows unexpected twist, the majority of viewers disliked the switch-up and believed producers were "punishing" players that chose the "correct answer."

During the season premiere Big Brother fans took to X, formerly Twitter, airing their complaints over the new overly complicated AI theme and first challenges. One viewer wrote: "Ew, this AI twist is creepy... I feel weird." And another agreed: "my brain hurts trying to listen to ainsley explain everything to them." While a third wrote: "It didn’t even take 30 minutes for a twist to punish players for making the correct game decision." And someone else fumed: "Already sick of the AI s---. They pick the most ridiculous themes."
