Gone but not forgotten
An outdoor pool was operated by the Erie Water Works through most of the 20th century. The public pool at the foot of Chestnut Street was a popular summer attraction from its 1902 opening until it was closed in 1985.
"It kept us out of trouble, and maybe got us into a little trouble," said Bob Zawadzki, who was a regular at the pool through childhood in the 1950s. The trouble came mostly from leaving towels behind.
"(My mother) always said that our towels were disappearing," Zawadzki said.
'It was a great time.' Erie's Chestnut Street pool was beloved for 80 years
