Liverpool will know if they've beaten Man City and Chelsea to transfer in next 10 days

It’s been an inauspicious start to the transfer window for Liverpool, with no new signings to mark the start of a new era at Anfield yet .

Arne Slot now has his feet under the table, and with a busy international summer now over, he will meet the entirety of his current squad in the coming weeks. The new head coach has already been working hard with the likes of Mohamed Salah , Dominik Szoboszlai and Andy Robertson this summer.

But as well as welcoming back players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold , Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister , Slot could do with some fresh faces to add to the mix. He won’t have much time to do so before he takes his side to the US for his first pre-season tour as boss.

Liverpool will be heading Stateside next week , where they will face Real Betis (July 27), Arsenal (August 1) and Manchester United (August 4), before returning home to Anfield to face Sevilla on August 11. By the time the first of those games rolls around, the Reds will reportedly know whether they have secured their first signing of the summer or not.

According to Caught Offside , Liverpool should know whether it’s been successful in its pursuit of Wolves star Rayan Ait-Nouri by the time it comes up against Betis later this month.

The Algeria international is said to still be an option for the Reds, while Manchester City and Chelsea are also in the race. Ait-Nouri is claimed to be open to leaving Molineux if he receives an ‘acceptable’ offer, both in terms of the length of the contract and the deal on offer to him.

Wolves are expecting to fetch at least $49m (£38m/€45m) for the left-back. The report suggests that representatives from the three clubs mentioned have made contact to gather more information, although none have made a move yet.

Liverpool.com says: It would be ideal if Liverpool could secure a signing or two before it heads off to the US, although it shouldn’t be seen as the end of the world if it doesn’t manage it. Given the busy international summer, Slot has not had much time with his squad, and it will be another few weeks before he gets some of his biggest players back.

Ait-Nouri would be an interesting addition, although it might be hard to justify parting with that sort of fee when you consider Liverpool already has Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas at left-back. If the latter were to move on soon, then the Wolves star might be worth a look.
