Alexis Mac Allister shows true colors with message to Liverpool teammate after Copa America win

Alexis Mac Allister has reached out to Luis Diaz after beating his Colombia side in the Copa America final. He has penned a touching message to his Liverpool teammate.

There was disappointment for Diaz in extra time, when tournament top goal-scorer Lautaro Martinez sealed a dramatic win for Argentina. Mac Allister now has another medal to add to the one he received for winning the World Cup in 2022.

It was a Copa America tournament full of intrigue from a Liverpool perspective, with Diaz having already come face-to-face with Darwin Nunez . Meanwhile, Mac Allister got the better of Moises Caicedo , subject of expensive transfer interest from Anfield last summer.

But if there were any fears of bad blood at Liverpool as a result of the various match-ups, they have quickly been dispelled. Replying to a post by Diaz reflecting on the tournament and his disappointment at falling short, Mac Allister offered some words of encouragement.

"Head up Luchito!" replied Mac Allister. "And congratulations on the tournament you did." This was accompanied by the clapping hands emoji.

Mac Allister had an excellent debut season at Liverpool. His handful of poor performances generally came after long trips back from South America, and he mostly represented a bastion of consistency, even when played in a relatively unfamiliar role at the base of the midfield.

He has since sometimes played that role for Argentina too, as he develops into a really well-rounded midfielder. There will be a question for Arne Slot over where to play Mac Allister ahead of the new campaign.

Mac Allister and Diaz will not link up with Slot for a little while yet as they are afforded breaks following the conclusion of the tournament. Neither will be present on the tour of the US, and can be expected to join up with the squad in early August. The Premier League campaign gets underway against Ipswich Town on August 17.

Liverpool.com says: A nice touch from Mac Allister. He's showing his class off the pitch as well as on it.

There have been one or two question marks about Diaz's future this summer, but it seems likely that he'll be reporting back into Liverpool training before long. Hopefully he heeds Mac Allister's words and arrives with his head held high.
