Manchester United are set to make significant strides today in the revamp of Erik ten Hag's squad following last season's shortcomings.

The Red Devils have already secured the services of Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for a cool $48m (£37m/€44m) and are ramping up their efforts to bolster Ten Hag's team further.

Mason Greenwood is set to make a permanent move to French outfit Marseille in a deal worth around $32m (£25m/€30m), with United aiming to wrap up that transfer by the end of the week.

United is also on the brink of confirming the signing of defender Leny Yoro from Marseille , having agreed on a fee that could eventually reach $77m (£59m/€70m).

The 18-year-old will pen a five-year contract with United, with an option for an additional year, and will join forces with Lisandro Martinez to form Ten Hag's preferred central defensive duo.

Yoro, who made 41 appearances and netted three goals for Marseille last season, was also on Liverpool and Real Madrid's radar. However, with only a year remaining on his contract, they were unwilling to match the hefty fee United were prepared to fork out..

With Yoro's signing imminent, United's attention now turns to offloading players to generate funds for a new central midfielder, with Paris Saint Germain's Manuel Ugarte high on their wishlist.

While interest remains in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs De Ligt, United have shifted their recruitment focus to other areas of the squad. Any potential move for an additional defender hinges on player sales, primarily if United can successfully offload Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

United have cover in that area, with Jonny Evans having penned a one-year contract extension, while Luke Shaw has previously transitioned from left-back to the left side of central defense.

Greenwood's departure will mark the end of his tenure at United, with the forward not having featured for the Red Devils since January 2022, following his arrest and subsequent suspension.

Greenwood faced charges of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behavior, only for the Crown Prosecution Service to later drop the case against the forward.

Liverpool.com says: An overhaul at Old Trafford was needed sooner rather than later after a disappointing campaign last time out. Yoro is going to be a top player but there are doubts over whether he is ready for the physical demands of the Premier League. That may well be why Liverpool didn't match United's bid.
