BELLEVUE — The Eaton County Sheriff's Office said it is investigating after a pair of excavators were damaged by vandals at Cheney Limestone Quarry earlier this week.

The excavators at the quarry, 9400 Sand Road, will cost more than $10,000 to repair, the sheriff's office said in a release.

Deputies were dispatched to the quarry about 7:30 a.m. July 12 for a malicious destruction of property complaint. The investigation is ongoing, the sheriff's office said.

"This may be related to other vandalism in the area that is being investigated by the Michigan State Police," the release said.

Cheney Limestone Company was founded in 1946 by F.G. "Sky" Cheney, the company's website notes, and produces crushed limestone for agricultural and other purposes.

Police ask that anyone with information about the damage call Detective Heather Stefan at 517-543-5486.
