A recent Lehigh Valley graduate is heading to Paris to provide coverage during the Summer Olympics

Now this seems like a fun way to learn, n’est-ce pas?

Rachel Williams, a 2022 Easton Area High School graduate, is among four Temple University students traveling to France to produce news content at the Paris Olympics related to Temple, Philadelphia and perhaps beyond.

Rather than covering the actual Olympics, the student reporters plan to cover life and culture in Paris and, hopefully, find stories that tie back to Temple and Philadelphia, according to a news release.

To Williams, that translates into reporting about Temple alumni who are participating in the Games, to the surrealism of watching beach volleyball sessions at “Eiffel Tower Stadium,” a temporary outdoor arena next to the famed landmark.

“It’s really a bit of everything,” Williams said Wednesday. “The goal is to get all four of us to build our skill sets in front and behind the camera, and editing.

“It’s going to be a work in progress,” she added, sounding like the journalism major she is.

Williams, the daughter of Victor and Cassandra Williams of Forks Township, earned the trip with three other students through the school’s Klein College of Media and Communication. They will produce a live, 30-minute news broadcast, “TUTV Live in Paris.” TUTV stands for Temple University Television.

She hopes to produce video content including “packages,” or news segments that incorporate video, voiceover interviews and sound bites.

“The opportunity to send students overseas to cover what happens at a global capital during a world-class event is exciting to us, and it’s exciting to them,” Paul Gluck, associate professor and TUTV general manager, said in a news release.

The students leave Saturday for Paris and will spend two weeks on site. They will work with an additional 10 students in Philadelphia who will produce, direct and anchor “TUTV Live in Paris.”

Three 30-minute shows are scheduled to air at noon Tuesday, July 25 and July 30. The news shows will air in Philadelphia markets and will also be available via livestream at templetv.net . The Paris Games run July 26 through Aug. 11. The students are scheduled to return Aug. 2 to Philadelphia.

Besides Williams, the other traveling Pennsylvania students are Natalie Koranda of Mechanicsburg; Hayden Winter, Elverson; and Maggie Przywara, West Grove.
