The New York Giants have remained cautiously optimistic that quarterback Daniel Jones, who is recovering from a torn ACL, will be healthy enough to participate in training camp when practices begin on Wednesday, July 24.

After missing team reps throughout the spring, Jones now appears healthy enough to reassume his role as the team’s starting quarterback.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Jones will avoid the physically unable to perform (PUP) list when he returns to East Rutherford next week.

“My understanding is that Daniel Jones will begin training camp active,” Rapoport said. “Not expected to be on the PUP list; not expected to be on any list. He is expected to be healthy and ready to go.

“The fact that he is not expected to be on the PUP list means there’s really going to be no limitations.”

Jones was limited to just six games in 2023 as the result of both a neck injury and the torn ACL, which he suffered in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Giants surrendered 85 sacks a season ago, the second-most in NFL history, resulting in injuries to not only Jones but Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito as well.

This offseason, general manager Joe Schoen emphasized repairing the offensive line, adding two starters and a slew of depth pieces. His goal was to give Jones a chance for success, something he admits the quarterback did not have in 2023.
