    Former North Carolina Animal Services Director arrested on fraud charges

    GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Deputies with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office arrested the former Pitt County Animal Services Director on Wednesday on forgery charges.

    The sheriff’s office was alerted to a case involving the Red Oak Fire Department on June 20. After investigating the department, detectives found fraudulent documents that were submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) where detectives then notified the FBI.

    Warrants for 50-year-old Christopher Chad Singleton were obtained on July 17 for Forgery, Uttering and Obtaining Property by False Pretense.

    Singleton turned himself in to the Pitt County Detention Center where he was given a $50,000 secured bond. He has since been released and is expected to be at the Pitt County District Court for his first appearance on Thursday.
