One cannot step on the cellphone of basketball superstar Caitlin Clark without at least being considered for the annual Turkey of the Year award in Minnesota. But what happens when the chairman of the Turkey of the Year committee is the suspect?

If Patrick Reusse goes to trial, he'll surely be convicted as he himself revealed video proof of his cellphone misstep, which, through a secondhand source, was "just a tap," according to the 79-year-old Star Tribune writer.

"Here’s video evidence of portly, aged sports writer stepping on Caitlin’s cell phone at Target Center on Sunday," Reusse wrote on Twitter, linking to the video.

The evidence is clear at the 30-second mark in the video below as Clark puts her phone and a towel on the floor to take a picture following her Indiana Fever's win over the Minnesota Lynx at Target Center on Sunday, only for the passing Reusse to step on it.

It was obvious that Clark, whose vision guided her to a WNBA record 19 assists in Indiana's win over Dallas on Wednesday night, saw Reusse's right foot falling in her phone's direction. She cautiously crouched and timidly reached – likely uttering a Midwestern "Ope!" – in the digital device's direction just as the chairman delivered the crushing blow.

It was too late. Reusse 1, WNBA superstar's cellphone 0.

The condition of the phone is said to be in good condition, with Judd Zulgad, a former Strib writer himself, confirming the "phone survived" and that Reusse was claiming "It was just a tap!"

    Reusse also escaped injury.
