CCBOE approves additional personnel for 2024-2025 school year

The Covington County Board of Education approved 13 personnel matters during a special called meeting on Wednesday, July 17.

The board approved the following personnel matters:

Leave of Absence

• The board granted a medical leave of absence with benefits under the Family Medical Leave Act to Bridget Williams, bus driver at Red Level School retroactive for May, due to Williams having back surgery.

Resignation

• Jordan Cantrell as history teacher and head football coach at Florala High School retroactive to June 24
• Rachel Lynn Smith as pre-K teacher at Red Level School retroactive to June 27
• Joseph Troy Turman as math intervention/physical education teacher at Fleeta Junior High School retroactive to July 8
• Farrye Nickole (Nikki) Crum as special education teacher at Red Level School retroactive to June 26
• Courtney Adams as pre-K auxiliary teacher at Fleeta Junior High School retroactive to July 8
• Natalie Camille Broussard as elementary teacher at Pleasant Home School effective July 31

Employment

• Kellie Ann Powell as general science teacher at Pleasant Home School effective at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Christopher Scott Dunn as maintenance worker with Covington County Schools with an effective date to be determined, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Meagan Turner as elementary teacher at Red Level School effective at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Erin Macks as elementary teacher at Red Level School effective at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Sydney Ray as pre-K auxiliary teacher at Fleeta Junior High School effective at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Leigh Campbell Lee as elementary teacher at Pleasant Home School effective at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews

“This just about concludes all of our hiring for the new school year. I believe we have about three positions left to hire, and we will see if we can conduct a special called meeting next week. In-service will be held during the week of August 5, the first day with employees back. The first day of school for students is August 12,” Superintendent Shannon Driver said.

The board set the next meeting for Tuesday, July 23, 7:30 a.m., at the central office.
