The Rolling Stones are nearing the end of their Hackney Diamonds Tour and they’re pulling out all the stops for the final shows. During the penultimate show on Wednesday, July 17, the band gave two songs their tour debut and pulled out a rare cover song as well.
While performing in Santa Clara, California, the Rolling Stones delivered “Far Away Eyes” from their 1978 album Some Girls. This song was a staple in their early live shows, but they’ve never played it during the Hackney Diamonds Tour. The song was picked from the fan vote list, according to a report from Ultimate Classic Rock. The list also included “Dead Flowers,” “Let It Bleed,” and “Sweet Virginia.”
In addition to “Far Away Eyes” getting its tour debut, the band also played the Hackney Diamonds track “Bite My Head Off” for the first time this year. The studio version features Paul McCartney, making it a perfect mesh of English musical legends.

The Rolling Stones Debut Two Songs Near End of Tour, Pull Out Rare Bob Dylan Cover
In addition to giving “Far Away Eyes” and “Bite My Head Off” the tour treatment, the Rolling Stones also pulled a rare cover song out of their hat. The band performed Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone,” which they featured frequently during tours in the 1990s. The cover was shelved for a while, but the Stones dusted it off for the second time this year.
So, what’s next for the Rolling Stones? Their Hackney Diamonds Tour concludes on July 24 in Ridgedale, Missouri. After that, who knows? They haven’t revealed any plans for new music or a new leg of the tour, so it’s possible the Stones could be quietly retiring after this. We won’t know unless there’s an official statement from the Rolling Stones, so for now, it’s all speculation.
