For over 40 years, Jack Russell showcased his love for music in bands like Great White. He even explored a solo career. But during the 80s and 90s, he helped propel Great White into the spotlight with albums like Out of the Night, Once Bitten, and Hooked. Growing up listening to stars like Robert Plant and Steven Tyler, Russell knew from an early age he wanted to be on the stage. And while making those dreams a reality, the singer recently announced his retirement from touring due to an ongoing illness.

Currently 63 years old, Russell spent the majority of his adult life on the stage, leaving his mark on the music industry. While loving every moment that followed him in the spotlight, he recently shared his retirement announcement on social media. He wrote, “To my fans and friends, It is with the heaviest of hearts that I must announce my retirement from the road. After a recent diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) in May 2024, I am unable to perform at the level I desire and at the level you deserve.”

Although wanting to focus on his health, Russell made sure to thank the countless fans who supported his career and showed him love. “Words cannot express my gratitude for the many years of memories, love, and support. Thank you for letting me live my dreams. You have made my life a wonder.”

Fans Thank Jack Russell For His Contributions To Music

While gaining thousands of likes, fans filled the comment section with praise for the vocalist. “Thank YOU for all the years of great music. Time to take care of yourself and be with loved ones. You’ve inspired us, and so many others. All the best…” One person added, “15, that’s the number of times I’ve seen you perform live. From the beginning till a few years ago Great White then Jack Russell’s Great White has always been my favorite band and vocalist. Your music hits me the same every time I listen to it. I was hoping to see you play one last time but I will always keep the music alive in me. Thank you for decades of memories. I wish you the best.”

For those who might not know, LBD is a type of neurodegenerative dementia that can affect movement, behavior, mood, and even thinking. While more than one million people suffer from the disease in the U.S. alone, icon Robin Williams also struggled with the illness before passing away in 2014.
