Relief may be on the horizon. The National Weather Service says Wednesday’s bad weather could break the heatwave that’s plagued our area for days.

Wednesday’s heavy rains, with winds of 50 mph, caused flooding on some neighborhood streets in Carteret, Edison, Monroe, Sayreville, South Amboy, South Brunswick, Perth Amboy, and parts of Woodbridge, according to police and many social media posts.

Wednesday’s severe weather threat caused Woodbridge Township to postpone until Wednesday, July 31st, its four-mile “Pizza Run Extravaganza” planned for the Alvin P. Williams Park in Seawaren. For updates, visit the township website .

Similarly, Tuesday’s heavy rain and high wind felled trees, brought down branches and dropped power lines in many of those same communities. Many of those towns also had temporary localized power outages.
