Alameda Education Foundation (AEF), a nonprofit that supports educational opportunities, innovation, and equity for Alameda public school K-12 students, has now welcomed four new members to its Board of Directors—Nadia Bueno, Jennifer Bullock, Sahru Keiser, and Page Tomblin.
Bueno is Deputy Director of CALICO (Child Abuse, Listening, Interviewing, and Coordination Center) and has extensive volunteer experience in governance and service, particularly in areas of social justice. As an AEF Board Member, she hopes to “advocate for the expansion and enhancement of its programs to reach even more students and address the diverse needs of our community”.
Bullock has held multiple Board officer roles within PTA over the last 10 years, in addition to running an online media business she co-owns with her husband. Her own children’s experiences with AEF programs made her a “big fan of AEF” and as a Board Member she will support AEF’s investment “in the support and success of all students.”
Keiser has a background in public health and health justice, and currently works at UCSF School of Nursing as a project manager of academic research. She believes that “educational access and attainment is a piece of health justice.” As an AEF Board Member, Keiser looks forward to “helping all children in Alameda have access to resources they need to succeed.”
Tomblin has more than 25 years of policy, communications, data analysis, and program development expertise in early childhood, healthcare, and social services programming. She is currently an independent consultant. She also has extensive school and community volunteer experience. Her thorough understanding of state policy decisions and their impact on local schools will help inform her work with AEF and she is eager to “be a part of AEF’s efforts to continue to center Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in our work and practices.”
“We are thrilled to welcome these new members to our team,” said Board President Kelly Scott. “Their combined professional and volunteer experiences and expertise will be incredibly valuable to AEF’s goal of supporting equitable and inclusive educational outcomes for Alameda public school students.”
AEF serves as a critical bridge toward equitable and inclusive educational outcomes for Alameda public school students by offering programming and equity-centered support of educational and student needs. AEF runs the Middle School Sports program for Alameda Unified School District, offers hundreds of after-school enrichment classes and more than 70 summer camps each year, and provides free visual arts programming. Equity-centered support includes hundreds of thousands of dollars for teacher mini-grants, backpacks, and school supplies for low-income students, technology support, and mental health care funding.
