Britt Baker recalls her road to recovery.

In her AEW return address, Britt Baker revealed that she battled a number of health issues in recent months. This included two herniated disks, a torn hip labrum, and a transient ischemic attack (TIA) , the latter of which serves as a warning sign for a stroke. In addition to the physical challenges, Baker mentioned that was also struggling mentally at the time as well. While speaking on Close Up with Renee Paquette , Baker opened up about her decision to take time off the road and finally take care of herself.

“It’s a blessing and a curse to be so stubborn where you kind of just want to power through all the injuries,” Baker said. “Even though it probably isn’t doing good for anybody to be fighting through injuries, sometimes you just feel like you want to be tough. You want to be the warrior, you want to set an example that we’re here for AEW, we’re going to do whatever is asked of us and needed of us. But yeah, my back got really bad there for a while where I had to get the injections to be able to even walk in the ring at some point.”

    Time For Healing

“It was everything kind of at once,” Baker continued. “I had a torn hip labrum, which again was from the herniated discs in my back, my neck, my wrist. Was just all kind of crumbling together. It was time to let everything heal, and just mentally and emotionally get in tune with myself again because you do kind of lose yourself at some point. It felt like I was stale, I was stagnant, with who I am as a performer. I needed time away to kind of be reinvigorated again and to find myself again.”

Baker’s absence from AEW television spanned nine months until she made a surprise reappearance at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door by confronting Mercedes Mone. Upon her return, the former AEW Women’s Champion challenged Mone, who currently holds the TBS and NJPW STRONG Women’s Championships, to a match at AEW All In.
