Cat Legit Cries for 'Mama' Outside the Door and People Can't Believe It

Some cats have figured out the best way to get their person's attention is to try to speak their own language. And this kitten has done that with the word "mama."

On July 16, 2024, TikTok user Felicia and Thomas (@watermelondreajon) shared a quick video clip of a cool trick that their little kitten has figured out. Take a look!

In the short seven-second video , we meet Thomas, a really cute grey kitten with white feet, who has the coolest party trick that will come in handy.

In the clip, Thomas is on the inside of a door that's only cracked open slightly. We can't see what's on the other side of that door, but whatever it is, Thomas is trying to get their attention. And he's trying a great tactic — the cat is talking .

Sitting in front of the door, he's meowing at whoever is on the other side of it, but his meow is really "Mama." It's easy to hear it, too, so there's no mistaking that Thomas wants his mama.

"Thomas at the door calling for me," the text on the video reads.

In the comments, people thought the cat calling for Mom was really something special.

One person wrote, "Aw, poor baby, open the door, and he is sad."

Another added, "This is too cute."

"It really does sound like he's saying mama. It's so cute," someone else chimed in.

Someone else joked, "Awwww. Momma, where are you?"

A TikTok user commented, "Wait, it looks like there is a crack in the door. Can’t he just push the door open? Poor baby!"

Thomas's mom replied to the comment, saying, "Right, he can just push it," but Thomas is just extra."

Why Does It Sound Like Some Cats Know People Words?

This cat meowing that sounds like they're saying "mama" is adorable and its not the only cat who has figured out how to say some people words but why is that?

According to The Humane Society of the United States , meowing, a.k.a. cat language, is used for many different reasons.

"Meowing is all-purpose," they note. "Your cat may be using 'meow'" as a greeting, a command, an objection or an announcement. Some people have observed their cats walking around the house meowing to themselves."

This sweet cat in the video appears to be "meowing," but it's taken an extra step to make it sound like it's calling for Mama.

However, the cat could be making more of a chirping sound, which most kittens use.

"Chirps and trills are how a mother cat tells their kittens to follow them," the Humane Society of the United States shared.

"Aimed at you, it probably means your cat wants you to follow them, usually to their food bowl. If you have more than one cat, you'll often hear them converse with each other this way."
