Raiders WR Davante Adams Fires Back At Decline Narrative

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams doesn’t want to hear any comments from the haters that his play on the gridiron are starting to decline.

Adams’ stats did dip lightly during the 2023 season, which has led to some chatter.

Last season, the star pass-catcher saw his yards per catch to drop to 11.1, and he also only finished with eight touchdowns. Adams heard the talk about the down year but pointed out to Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay that the stats could still be considered elite.

“One day I’m not going to be at the top of my game, but that ain’t today,” Adams said. “… I still had over 1,100 yards, over 100 catches, and that was a down year. If that’s a down year, I feel like we’re going to be alright.”

Davante Adams quiets the trade rumors

Adams also talked about how he really doesn’t listen to what others outside the organization say and the most important thing to him is winning. With winning being the most important thing, he can’t be happy with how 2023 ended.

Since last season concluded, there has been some talk about trade rumors, but Adams said he’s still locked in with the Raiders.

“I’m actively on the Raiders. What do I look like sitting here talking to other people about being on another team? And that’s how I still feel about it right now,” Adams said. “I’m locked in with the Raiders, and I really feel good about this team, and as far as I know they feel good about me.

“If that ever changes, if that got to a point where they weren’t feeling the same way, I ain’t done playing, so obviously we would figure out whatever we needed to figure out.”

If the Raiders did decide to trade Adams, there is no doubt there would be plenty of interest for someone coming off a “down year.”

Davante Adams is entering the third year of his five-year contract, which is set to pay him $140 million in total. One issue for the Raiders last season was the quarterback play, and they hope this year there will be more stability and success. Aidan O’Connell is currently slated to be the starting quarterback, but Gardner Minshew was also brought in, and he could end up starting if things don’t work out with O’Connell.

The good news for whoever is starting is they still have an elite wide receiver as a number one weapon.
