New Beetlejuice 2 Trailer Teases Unexpected Alliances & New Adventures

A new trailer of everyone’s favourite poltergeist-for-hire, Beetlejuice 2, has arrived, and in it, fans can see the budding of a new partnership between former adversaries.

The upcoming highly anticipated sequel to the 1988 original Beetlejuice 2 (named twice for double the effect) has just dropped a new trailer in 2024, 36 years after the original film was released. Normally, sequels take place a few years after the original, but all of those years have passed, and the on-screen chemistry between Beetlejuice (played by Michael Keaton) and Lydia Deetz ( Winona Ryder ) has not skipped a beat. The story takes place many years (canonically) after the first film’s events, where Lydia learned how to speak with the dead, and the 1988 film faithful will note that the Deetz house appears to be the same as it appeared back in the 80s (albeit covered in a black drape in the trailer). In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice , Lydia has a teenage daughter named Astrid (played by Wednesday and Miller’s Girl star Jenna Ortega). She appears to be fed up with being a ‘legend’s daughter’ until she is subsequently kidnapped by the supernatural.

This leaves Lydia no choice but to summon her long-lost enemy, Beetlejuice , in an attempt to recruit him to help her save her daughter. The original film showed the strained relationship between Lydia and the poltergeist-for-hire, and it’s portrayed by Lydia’s reluctance to summon him in the first place; she can be heard saying, “I can’t believe I’m doing this…” before muttering the words that summon the ghost with the most back to the mortal plane. His original goal was to escape the afterlife forever by marrying Lydia, but this time, his motivations are unknown.
