Way back in 2012, while on tour with Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan sat down at a piano and attempted a cover of Adele’s hit “Someone Like You.” An interesting choice for down-home country boy Luke Bryan, but he executed it well with a little help from the crowd.

First, he humbly opened by claiming that he “suck[s] at the piano.” He then urged the crowd, “So no judging in here, alright?” giving them his trademark roguish grin. Bryan then started the song, playing lightly at the piano and sitting firmly in a higher register. He invited the crowd to sing along, and shimmied at the piano while they helped him out, showing off a youthful energy.

Luke Bryan could really hit those high notes 12 years ago. Though still cautious, he took the cover to extremes, seemingly performing it in the same octave as the original. The audience was on hand to assist, singing along surprisingly well for an impromptu, unorganized crowd.

“Give yourselves a hand!” Bryan called out at the end of the interlude. The Adele smash hit sounds interesting but not at all bad in his signature Georgia drawl. Luke Bryan Celebrates Birthday With Tribute from American Idol Co-Star

What better reason to share a youthful performance from Luke Bryan than his birthday? He celebrated his 48th on July 17 with well-wishes from fans, friends, and one of his American Idol co-stars.

Ryan Seacrest sent Bryan a heartfelt birthday wish that recalled a particular moment the two had on the show. Emmy Russell, granddaughter of the late Loretta Lynn, performed an original song called “Want You,” which she stated was about “me wanting someone that didn’t want me back,” adding, “I really wished this person loved me like I loved them.”

Seacrest was overcome with emotion at the song, and Luke Bryan offered to give him a hug. For Bryan’s birthday, Seacrest posted a photo of them together and recalled that sweet moment, writing “Happy birthday, LB! Thanks for loving me like I love you.”
