The lead-up to the Alaska World Arts Festival in September is filled with engaging pre-festival events in July and August, setting the stage for the main event in September. These events build anticipation and highlight Homer's rich artistic culture.

Tuesdays in July - Spit Tunes at Alice's Champagne Palace

I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic show! It's a great way to discover the crazy history of Homer, Alaska, and the characters who molded it into the Cosmic Hamlet by the Bay.

The shows sell out, so reserve your seats. Tickets for July 23 and 30 are free with a Festival Pass.

Spit Tunes is a musical comedy that dives into Homer's colorful history. Held every Tuesday in July at Alice's Champagne Palace, this show blends comedy, music, and spirited dancing. It narrates the story of Homer's past, featuring historical heroes on quests for dry land, furs, gold, statehood, and a thriving fishing season.

The performances are a lively mix of antics and storytelling, bringing to life the adventures and misadventures of Homer's most iconic characters. This event is viral, and tickets are selling out fast, so be sure to secure your spot for an entertaining evening.

August 17 & 24 - Fresh Produce Improv at the Art Barn

Fresh Produce Improv, a beloved teaching and performing troupe founded in Homer in 1985, returns to its roots this August. The troupe consists of seasoned performers Marty Zeller, Peter Kaufmann, Peggy Ellen Kleinleder, Van Hawkins, and Sally Oberstein, who have honed their skills through workshops and performances worldwide.

Held at the Art Barn, these improv shows are a delightful blend of scenes, stories, games, and simple magic. Fresh Produce Improv promises to entertain with its spontaneous and creative performances, making it a perfect prelude to the Festival's main events.

As we gear up for this year's Festival, let's explore the exciting pre-festival events and the main festivities that make this event a must-attend.
