Colin Jost Gushes Over Wife Scarlett Johansson’s Parenting Skills & We’re Swooning

Colin Jost is usually busy making us laugh, but his recent interview with The New York Times did nothing but make us swoon. Because instead of focusing on himself, the Saturday Night Live star took it as an opportunity to gush over his wife Scarlett Johansson and how they started dating . While we all know her as an A-list actress, he knows her as an A-list mom. In fact, that’s part of what drew him to her.

The comedian is stepfather to Rose, 9 — whom Johansson shares with ex-husband Romain Duariac — and he’s been in her life since she was a toddler. “I’ve known Rose, my stepdaughter, since she was 2,” Jost explained. “It’s weird. You get to actually preview someone as a mom.”

As in, before he and Johansson ultimately tied the knot in 2020 and welcomed their first child a year later, Jost got to see what she would be like in that role. It was a preview. A sample. An appetizer. And Jost was apparently blown away.

“I think part of the reason I fell in love with her is she’s a great mom,” he said.

How sweet is that?! While some people run for the hills when they learn that a prospective partner has a child, it’s part of what kept Jost around. And his readiness and enthusiasm when it comes to openly praising his wife’s parenting is just … *swoon* !

In August 2021, the couple welcomed a son together, and the baby boy’s name raised some eyebrows . Jost said on an appearance of Late Night with Seth Meyers that even his mother was “slightly thrown” by the name Cosmo .

“She would call us, after three or four days, she’d be like, ‘ Cosmo …’ She’d be like, ‘And, now, is it final ? Like, did you submit the birth certificate?’ And we’re like, ‘Oh, yeah, we did that at the hospital,’” Jost said.

“She was like ‘Oh okay, interesting. Because I was reading that there’s also a name ‘Cosimo’ with an ‘I’ so that could also be an option. Maybe you call him Cosimo, that’s his real name, but then you can call him still Cosmo.’”

*Sigh* You never can please everyone when picking a baby name . She has since accepted the moniker after meeting more Cosmos. As for big sister Rose, it’s uncertain how she feels about her little brother’s existence … much less his name. A few months after he was born, Johansson revealed that her daughter was preoccupied with other things.

“She’s seven, so she’s very busy, she’s kind of like, ‘Oh yeah, he’s cute. So, all this happened,’ [just] non-stop talk,” the Black Widow star joked. Now, as a 9-year-old, we don’t know how Rose feels about her baby brother, but we hope to get more insights into the Johansson-Jost family life next month when little Cosmo turns 3.
