Ayo Edebiri receives best actress Emmy Award nomination as The Bear sets new record

Actress Ayo Edebiri has received a nomination for best actress at this year’s Emmy Awards. She is one of several actors from The Bear that snagged nominations for their performances.

The hit Hulu series broke the record for the most nominations in a single year for a comedy series - 23 altogether - which was previously held by 30 Rock, with 22 nominations in 2009. The nominations included best comedy series and best actor in a comedy series for protagonist, Jeremy Allen White.

Edebiri rose to new levels of fame after her role as Sydney in the series. The Boston native stole the hearts of the public with her charisma both on and off screen. Her wit and charm on red carpets and in interviews have earned her a reputation as one of Hollywood’s hottest newcomers.

Earlier this year, Edebiri was the recipient of the Critics Choice Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. She hilariously thanked Ireland in her acceptance speech, playing into the ongoing joke that she is actually Irish.

As well as being recognized for her acting chops, Edebiri has received plenty of fan praise for her directorial debut on season three. She directed episode six titled "Napkins" which fans are saying is the best of the season.

The Bear was second only to Shōgun - a historical epic drama set in Japan - which led with 25 nominations in total. Netflix ’s Baby Reindeer and The Crown were also successful.
