Singer Jack Russell is one of the founding members of hard rockers Great White. Russell has been in and out of the band quite a bit in recent decades, but until earlier this year, he had been touring under the band name “Jack Russell’s Great White,” while the original Great White also remained active.

Russell has had numerous health issues over the years, some brought on by his battles with addiction. Sadly this week, Russell has announced he is retiring from touring after being diagnosed with Lewy body dementia and multiple system atrophy.

“To my fans and friends, it is with the heaviest of hearts that I must announce my retirement from the road,” Russell said in a statement. “After a recent diagnosis of Lewy body dementia (LBD) and multiple system atrophy (MSA) in May 2024, I am unable to perform at the level I desire and at the level you deserve. Words cannot express my gratitude for the many years of memories, love and support. Thank you for letting me live my dreams. You have made my life a wonder.”

Lewy body dementia impacts memory, decision-making and the ability to solve problems. It can lead to motor and muscle weakness and rigidity. It also can cause sleep disorders and hallucinations.

Russell just released his autobiography, “The True Tale Of Mista Bone: A Rock + Roll Narrative.” Great White’s biggest tunes include “One Bitten, Twice Shy,” “House of Broken Love,” “Mista Bone,” “Rock Me,” “Save Your Love,” “Lady Red Light” and “Call It Rock N’ Roll.” The band also infamously was at the center of the tragic 2003 fire at The Station night club in Rhode Island where 100 people died and another 230 were injured.
