'He was very sweet.' Family identifies man shot and killed by FBI in Carroll County

The man shot and killed by an FBI agent on Monday in Carroll County has been identified as 25-year-old Jacob Bible.

Authorities still haven't released his name, and have disclosed little information about the shooting. However, Bible's mother, Amy Blake, told the Canton Repository her son was shot at their Perron Road SE home in Union Township.

"I was told they had a search warrant they were executing; it was during that," Blake said, adding she wasn't told what the FBI wanted to search for when they came to her home that morning.

She said Bible was alone at the time. She was out of town. Her husband was at a medical appointment. Blake said authorities notified her husband after the shooting; he then contacted her.

Bible had been charged by local law enforcement with domestic violence and assault last month for an incident at the house. His mom said the case — which was pending — had nothing to do with Monday's search.

"He had a substance abuse issue ... and he was getting help for it," she said.

Bible, who was born in Canton, had lived in Carroll County for the past year. Prior to that, he'd lived in Kentucky, Tennessee, and other areas of Ohio, according to an obituary at Gordon Funeral Homes in Magnolia.

"He was just a loner," Blake said. "But he was very sweet."

The obituary noted his father, Gaylen Bible, preceded Bible in death. Besides his mom and stepfather, he's survived by brother, Justin Pasacic; grandparents, Joe and Charlotte Swinford; aunt, Carrie Swinford; and uncle, Brian Swinford.

There will be no visitation or services.

An FBI spokesperson said Thursday that the agency would have no further comment beyond an earlier statement.

"As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further details to provide,” the agency previously said. "The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously. In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division."
