Everything to know about Yacht Club Festival with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gwen Stefani

The Twin Cities have been starved for an in-city music festival of the scale that the inaugural Minnesota Yacht Club Festival will bring this weekend.

Even smaller festivals and larger regional ones have evaporated . It's been more than decade since the Dave Matthews Band and Tool headlined the River's Edge Music Festival. Rock the Garden is gone . Basilica Block Party is back , but scaled down. Eaux Claires is no more. Ditto to 10,000 Lakes, X-Fest, Soundset, et al. Yacht Club promises to bring back some of that summer concert excitement with headliners like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gwen Stefani, and Alanis Morissette.

Here's everything you need to know if you're rolling out to Harriet Island to catch the mix of '90s bands, current acts, and beloved local (and "local") bands.

    Who is playing?

Unlike many major festivals, the two stages of Minnesota Yacht Club will not have overlapping sets — much like how the two main stages of Eaux Claires was set up, but without the little shows and jam sessions around it. That means, if you were so inclined, you could see every band on the poster.

Friday's lineup is headlined by Gwen Stefani, who hasn't played all that often in recent years, and Alanis Morissette. The day also features performances from The Black Crowes, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, The Head and the Heart, Durry, Morgan Wade, Michigander, Gully Boys, and Harbor & Home.

Saturday will feature the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Offspring, Hippo Campus, Gary Clark Jr., The Hold Steady, Soul Asylum, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Wilderado, Nico Vega, and Bugsy.

    There are still tickets available

There are a lot of tiers to sort through on the fest's ticketing page . General admission is the most affordable, but there are also GA+, VIP, Riverboat VIP, and Platinum tickets.

As far as general admission goes, there are two-day passes ($255) and one-day passes for Friday ($135) available. Saturday's one-day passes are sold out, but some can be found on the secondary market.

There are a few ways to get to the music

There is no on-site parking. However, the light rail's Central Station is about a half-mile from the main entrance. There is also a dedicated drop-off and pick-up spot for rideshares.

Yacht Club has also set up a pair of bike parking locations. One is underneath Wabasha Bridge near the main entrance. The other is on Plato Blvd near the West entrance. More details on transportation can be found on the fest's website.

You can't bring much with you

Like heading to a Wild game downtown, they're not letting you bring in bags. Backpacks, purses, and bags are prohibited with the exception of small clutch purses and fanny packs that are 6"x9" or smaller and have no more than one pocket. All other bags have to be clear and 12" x 6" x 12" or smaller. Empty hydration bags are also allowed.

    What's with the boats?

    Good question.

While there's no yacht rock on the bill, there are actually boats involved in the fest. "Riverboat VIP" tickets ($825) will have very important spectators lounging in the air conditioning of Padelford Riverboats, including a 60-minute cruise.

Is it going to happen again?

The festival is run by C3 Presents (of which, Live Nation has a significant stake). C3 manages festivals like Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, and Governor's Ball, among others, so it's familiar with the festival landscape and tailoring the events to the city where they take place. The company has indicated that it hopes this isn't the first and only Yacht Club.
