The Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County has accepted a $175,000 grant from TransAlta Centralia Board Funding to support the organization’s STEM Exploration Hub Project.

In an announcement Wednesday, Boy & Girls Club Executive Director Sarah Althauser said the funds will support a cutting-edge STEM Hub, for hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

“We are thrilled to receive this generous grant from TransAlta Centralia,” Althauser said in a statement. “This funding will allow us to provide high-quality STEM education, preparing our youth for future careers. We believe in helping our kids discover their purpose and pursue their passions with confidence. In a world where some families are simply trying to stay afloat, we hope to use this grant so these kids don’t simply survive but thrive in the years to come.”

In the announcement, Althauser said the grant would help support the organization’s mission to promote academic success, healthy lifestyles and good character and citizenship.

“We believe that STEM challenges us and fosters growth. Embracing a growth mindset, we teach our members to overcome the fear of failure, try again, and build resilience,” Althauser said. “This program encourages exploration and lifelong learning, opening up career pathways for our kids.”
