For much of the summer, the extreme heat has stayed far from the Ozarks . The same can’t be said for one of the coldest places on Earth: Siberia, Russia.

During the month of July, the historic heat wave has left parts of Siberia close to topping out at 90°.

Fountains, beaches, and riverbanks have been popular places for people to cool down during the extreme heat. The amount of people swimming, coupled with the extreme heat, has left rescuers on high alert.

Nearly 50 people, including 16 children, have drowned since the beginning of summer. This is double the normal number of water-related deaths.

The animals at the Novosibirsk Zoo have mostly hidden away in their enclosures. However, the polar bears have been enjoying the park’s pools.

High temperatures in Novosibirsk made it to 88° F. Average July high temperatures are around 75° F.

For a country that sees an average January high of 3° F, the upper-80’s can take a toll.
