‘A Whole Lot of Nonsense’: CNN’s Daniel Dale Brutally Fact Checks Peter Navarro’s RNC Speech

CNN fact checker Daniel Dale dismissed Peter Navarro’s speech at the Republican National Convention as a “whole lot of nonsense.”
Dale joined anchor Wolf Blitzer on Monday to respond to Navarro’s speech at the convention . Navarro, a former advisor to former President Donald Trump , addressed the crowd just hours after being released from prison. He was convicted of contempt of Congress after refusing to comply with a subpoena from the congressional subcommittee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
“What stood out, Wolf, was that there was a whole lot of nonsense,” Dale told Blitzer after Navarro’s speech.
Dale knocked Navarro for claiming Attorney General Merrick Garland and Special Counsel Jack Smith were behind him being convicted by a Washington D.C. jury.
“So he claimed that Attorney General [Merrick] Garland and [Special Counsel] Jack Smith indicted and prosecuted him. Jack Smith was not involved. This was a prosecution done by regular old DOJ,” Dale said.
He also pushed back on Navarro describing his jury as “anti-Trump,” arguing there is no way for Navarro to actually know this.
“He claimed he was convicted by an anti-Trump jury. He’s assuming based on the voting patterns of, yes, very Democratic Washington D.C., but he doesn’t know that,” he said.
He finally hit Navarro for claiming Congress wanted him to violate executive privilege through his testimony.
“He produced no direct evidence to the court that former President Trump even tried to invoke privilege in his case. He claimed it over and over. Never proved it whatsoever,” Dale said.
Navarro was introduced to raucous applause this week in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“Joe Biden and his department of injustice put me there,” Navarro said about his prison sentence in Miami, Florida. “I’ve got a very simple message for you. If they can come for me, and if they can come for Donald Trump, be careful. They will come for you.”
