The actress stopped by the Bravo Clubhouse for Wednesday night’s (July 17) episode of Watch What Happens Live , where host Andy Cohen asked whether the “old urban legend” about her time working with McConaughey was true.
“No! No, he doesn’t wear deodorant,” she said, before shamelessly adding, “And by the way, I don’t either.”
Hudson joked that she even had to “look for deodorant backstage” ahead of her WWHL appearance.
“My thing was that I could smell him from a mile [away] because we were so close,” she said of McConaughey. “We’re au naturale.”
Cohen said he would “expect nothing less” from either of the iconic actors, recalling the time McConaughey appeared on WWHL and didn’t know what manscaping was .
The Oscar-winning actor previously revealed that he hadn’t worn deodorant in decades.
“I just never wore it,” McConaughey said, per Maxim . “No cologne, no deodorant. The women in my life, including my mother, have all said, ‘Hey, your natural smell smells, one, like a man, and, two, smells like you.'”
It doesn’t seem like McConaughey’s lack of deodorant use has scared Hudson away from working with him. Fool’s Gold was their second movie together, with their first being the beloved 2003 rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days .
The film follows Hudson’s Andie Anderson, an advice columnist who must write about how women can get a man to leave them in 10 days. However, her plan backfires when she meets the swoon-worthy Ben Berry (McConaughey), who’s made his own bet that he can get a woman to fall in love with him in 10 days.
It’s been more than two decades since the movie hit theaters, but Hudson told Cohen that a sequel is always being considered.
“I think they’re always thinking about that. All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I were into the script,” she said. “I think we’re both totally open but it just never has happened.”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock .
