Cape Cod is the quintessential New England summer getaway spot, with miles of beautiful beaches, sparkling ocean water as perfect for swimming in as they are for whale watching, and quaint small towns boasting centuries of history. Other famous beach cities like Miami, Destin, and San Diego may have more of a hip, modern edge, but Cape Cod's serene historic beauty is totally timeless.

From visiting local museums to patronizing centuries-old businesses, there's countless opportunities for tourists to engage with the history of Cape Cod. But why not do one better, and actually stay in a historic vacation property there? This cozy Cape Cod cottage hails all the way from the 1870s, but it's no less charming now than it was 150 years ago.

Everything about this vacation home from @sunsetcottagerentals just screams classic Cape Cod . The simple white-washed wooden interiors and maritime motifs capture a particular New England coastal vibe that's somehow both old-timey and timeless. You can tell that this is an authentic 19th century home, but its cozy minimalism still feels fresh and inviting in 2024 - perfect for a romantic summer getaway in Cape Cod.

A Perfect Cape Cod Vacation Home

Historic charm and classic New England coastal aesthetics are only part of what makes this vintage cottage an ideal vacation rental . It's located in Harwich Port, a popular Cape Cod beach town, and is just a two-minute walk away from the beach. According to Sunset Cottage, it's also a mere ten-minute walk to the town's Main Street, which was reportedly ranked among the top 23 small-town main streets in America by Country Living in 2017. There you'll find restaurants, ice cream parlors, boutique shops, fun touristy businesses, and lots more to explore. Real estate is all about location, location, location, and this cottage has a great location on lock.

Plus, while this is a historic seasonal vacation home in Cape Cod , you won't have to swelter and sweat during a heat wave. Sunset Cottage Rentals adds in the comments that the cottage has two air-conditioning units, one in the living room and one upstairs in the bedroom. Phew... what a relief!

    Renting This Cape Cod Cottage

While Sunset Cottage Rentals is working on a standalone site, this property is currently listed on ineedavacation.com as the " Wild Rose Cottage " in Harwich Port's Campground neighborhood. Unfortunately for prospective summer vacationers (though fortunately for the owners), the property only had one week left available in August when it went up yesterday, and since then those dates have been snatched up. The good news is that availability is wide-open for summer 2025, so you've got flexibility to plan next year's vacation.

If you're going to stay here, keep in mind that this property requires a 7-night stay minimum, so only book if you're expecting a long vacation in Cape Cod. Also, due to the property's age and design, the stairs are very shallow and steep, and Sarah (the host) warns that this property might not be ideal for very young or very old guests for this reason. If those two caveats aren't problematic for you, though, then you're all set.

Sarah appears to be very responsive on TikTok, and the linked vacation listing above should have everything you need to get in touch and make a booking. You've got some time to plan for next summer, but don't take too long - I foresee this cottage getting booked solid again next summer!
