GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Governor Roy Cooper released his list of communities that will receive more than $253 million in grants for drinking water and wastewater projects. Several towns, cities and counties on the list reside in ENC.

“Strong water and wastewater systems are vital for safe drinking water and economic development,” said Governor Cooper. “Thanks to federal funding from the Biden-Harris Administration and state appropriations we’ve made historic investments to rebuild and replace aging systems, especially in rural communities, which will make our state stronger.”

In Pitt County, the Towns of Fountain, Ayden, and Winterville have been approved for loans and grants in order to complete their projects. Nextdoor in Lenoir County, the City of Kinston will receive three different grants to replace the Herritage Street Sewer and Upper Neuse Sewer and construct Adkin Branch Flood Mitigation. Kinston was granted a little over $11 million for these three projects. Lenoir County has also been granted over $2 million to conduct PFAS treatment.

Washington County has two grants for the Town of Creswell totaling $325,000 that were approved. Creswell’s Wastewater and Water Systems will both be assessed.

Duplin County will receive $823,190 for their 2024 Lead Service Line Inventory Project.

The City of Goldsboro is expected to receive $500,000 for PFAS treatment and evaluation.

Hyde County will improve their Fairfield Drainage District with their over $3 million grant. The Swan Quarter Sanitary District in Hyde County will be evaluated with their $250,000 grant.
