LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Central Arkansas average gas prices have begun in steady climb in July after being below $3 per gallon through June.

The AAA weekly gas price report for July 18 shows that Arkansas gas prices are now averaging $3.15 per gallon compared to $3.08 a week ago. Experts state the 7-cent uptick is due to a recent rise in crude oil prices.

Central Arkansas prices are below the state average, with the Little Rock-North Little Rock metro at $3.10 per gallon. Pine Bluff is still lower at $3.07 per gallon, while Hot Springs is higher at $3.12 per gallon.

The highest gas prices in the state are in Woodruff County to the east, at $3.34 per gallon, while the lowest is in Hot Spring County, at $3.04 on average per gallon.

According to the AAA report, crude oil prices climbing at or above $80 in the past month are driving the price increases. AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria said he does not see a change as long as crude prices remain at the current level.

“Drivers are likely noticing price increases at their local stations this week,” Chabarria said. “As long as crude oil prices remain elevated, so too will gas prices.”

AAA officials report Arkansas pays the sixth-lowest average gas price in the country. The national average is $3.51 per gallon, with California paying the highest at $4.72.
