Thousands still without power days after severe storm in Central Jersey

Thousands of customers are still without power three days after violent storms swept across a narrow band of Central Jersey Tuesday evening.

Jersey Central Power and Light was reporting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday that there are 2,789 customers without power in Central Jersey.

There are 1,809 outages in Hunterdon County, 689 in Middlesex County and 286 in Somerset County.

Hunterdon County power outages

• Kingwood, 470 outages.
• Franklin Township, 309 outages.
• Raritan Township, 303 outages.
• Readington, 160 outages.
• Alexandria, 130 outages.
• Delaware Township, 120 outages.
• Frenchtown, 103 outages.

In Somerset County the two hardest hit areas are Hillsborough, 208 outages, and Branchburg, 49 outages.

In Middlesex County, the two most affected towns are Jamesburg, 562 outages, and Monroe, 114 outages.

PSE&G is reporting only 390 customers without power in scattered areas.

Hunterdon County is also reporting that 19 roads are either closed or have restricted access because of storm debris. Some of the roads closed are:

• Clover Hill Road in Raritan Township.
• Old Croton Road in Raritan Township.
• Central Avenue in Readington.
• Mill Street in Milford.
• Old River Road in Frenchtown.

Jersey Central Power and Light is offering free ice and water for costumers without power at the following locations:

• Kings, Whitehouse Station and Bedminster.
• Shop Rite, Somerville, Clinton and Raritan Township.

The violent storm brought winds in excess of 60 mph in a relatively narrow path of Central Jersey from Frenchtown to Woodbridge.

Extensive damage was reported throughout central Hunterdon County, Hillsborough, Metuchen and Edison.
