Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” Dethrones Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” As Top Played Song On TouchTunes

Will will hate to see this go, but others will love to watch it leave. Today, Billboard announced that Chris Stapleton's longstanding TouchTunes top-played song, "Tennessee Whiskey," has been pushed out of the number one spot - which is pretty incredible, considering the song is nearly 10 years old at this point and up until recently was STILL the top song on the TouchTunes. Of course, while we all know firing up the TouchTunes after a few cold snacks can lead to killer plays (bring on all the '90s country, please), popular songs often dominate the board. "Tennessee Whiskey," while a stellar track, is notoriously overplayed on the bar scene. I bet you can fill up one finger walking down Broadway in Nashville and count how many times you've heard it. But, the song that knocked it down the ladder is not one I am sure our readers will be thrilled to see. Now claiming the top spot for the most played TouchTunes song is Shaboozey’s "A Bar Song (Tipsy)." "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" has taken social media by storm, with 487 million streams on Spotify alone. The pop-country song has its grip on listeners. While I admit the song is rather catchy, it undoubtedly falls into the pop-country genre (although he referred to it as a "traditional country song" ), which we are not keen on here at Whiskey Riff. Billboard outlines how TouchTunes breaks down their streaming charts: "A Bar Song (Tipsy)' tops the TouchTunes Frontline Chart, which ranks music released in the last 18 months, for the second quarter of 2024 (covering April 1-June 30). I'd rather hear the silky smooth vocals of Stapleton on repeat, but that is my personal opinion. However, the best part of this report is that country music holds four out of the top five spots on the Frontline chart, and the top six spots on the Catalog chart (which notes the most played of all time). "Tennessee Whiskey" holds the top honors on the Catalog chart, followed by Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar," Garth Brooks' "Friends In Low Places," Jelly Rolls' "Son Of A Sinner," and rounding out the list Hardy's "Truckbed."
